Red Sox 6, Redhawks 5
The Red Sox finished their weekend on a good note, coming back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat the Redhawks 6-5 on a sunny afternoon game up at Heritage. After a disastrous first inning with the Redhawks piling up 4 runs, Lance Dinsmore came in to pitch and basically shut down the Redhawk's bats from then on, with some good defense behind him. Matt Nashlenas went 3 for 4 with 2 rbi's. Although each team did not wear their throw back jerseys, the game was played vintage-style with the teams using baseball gloves as bases due to lack of keys. boxscore
Cardinals 7, Firebirds 6
A slow start but a wild finish as the Cardinals won a nail bitter over the Firebirds on Saturday night. Another complete game from a Cardinal pitcher, in fact the Cards have got a complete game from a pitcher in every game so far this season. Dan Bowen cruised along until his defence crapped the bed. cards held a 2-0 lead until the Birds plated 3 in the 6th to take the lead. fortunately the Cardinals plated 5 in the bottom of the 6th to provide a little breathing room......they needed it as the Birds scored 3 in the top of the 7 and had the bases loaded with 2 outs but could not find a way to plate anyone else and the Cards squeaked by with the W. boxscore
Dodgers 6, Mudcats 1
The Dodgers were supposed to play two on this lovely May afternoon but the Cobras could not scramble to gather a team so they just got the one in. The Dodgers were missing quite a few regulars in the battle of 1st place with the Mudcats but they managed to put a few runs on the board to take the outright lead in the standings. Tyler Dawes continued his torrid pace hitting a towering 3 run shot, a long double to deep centre field and an absolute laser line drive missing the tripe for the cycle. Kyle Leslie pitched seven strong innings striking our 8, walking none and giving up one run. The "true" highlight of the game was definitely Scott Fenton's feast after the game. Fenton took post game BBQ's to a new level by slow smoking a prime rib roast the night before and creating a wonderful pulled roast sandwich with coleslaw spread. The Mudcats, Dodgers and umpires all got to experience Fenton's true talents, FOOD! He is quickly becoming the Dodgers favourite spare... and based on this year's attendance we will need a spare every 2nd game. Look out Crowe, your .125 average and lack of BBQ skills are on the bubble! boxscore
Mudcats 13, Red Sox 4
Mudcat Pitcher Vance Leschuk was asked if he would be able to arrive at the park on time to warm up. He replied with "I will see what I can do." Well much to Mudcat managements suprise, Leschuk was spotted in the Thompson parking lot 15 min. prior to first pitch! A welcome sight, and one not seen for at least two seasons. With Vance's new attitude, he was handed the ball to start the game. Not only did he start the game, he pitched six strong innings for the win. Daniel Halliday came in for the final inning and retired the Red Sox in order. The Mudcats are requesting that Vance bring his dad out more often as many Cats players were discussing how Vance had shown such great poise in the game. Mr. Leschuk had no idea what we were talking about, but Vance himself, and the Mudcat players sure do!!! The Mudcats were hitting balls all over the field tonight, seeing eye singles, and balls that just happen to find "no mans land", and of course some solid hits as well. boxscore
Razorbacks 4, Cubs 3
The Razorbacks used three pitchers in game two to split the doubleheader. Paul Cuffley, Rob Crowe and Troy Miller combined to hold the Cubs to four hits. boxscore
Cubs 9, Razorbacks 5
Steve Washi struck out eleven over six innings as the Cubs won for the first time in 2012. Troy Miller, Nate Easterbrook and Jason Boldt each a a pair of hits. boxscore
Cardinals 7, Cobras 1
Cardinals played a solid game Friday night with strong pitching from Ryan Van Brabant, giving up only 6 hits and striking out 5. Six different batters for the Cardinals had multi hit games with Anthony Gatto responding to the manager dropping him to 8th in the order with a double, single, 1 run, 2 rbi and 2 stolen bases. Huge props to Todd Campbell and Bill ' I ain't retired ' Fiibish for helping out an injury riddled Cardinals squad. Todd had a couple of hits and an rbi while Bill had a huge rbi single in the 2nd and and a solid ground out to the right side to advance a runner to 3rd that led to 2 runs being scored in the 5th to put the game away. The lone highlight for the Cobras was Murray ripping a 3 bagger. boxscore
