A
very tight game Monday night at Mundy which saw Jeff Brovold shut
down his former team over five very strong innings giving up only
one run and three hits. Ron Benedictson quickly erased the 2 - 1
lead by giving up 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to knot the game
at 4 - 4. In the top of 7 Darren Silcox lead the inning off with a
double, Kyle Leslie then hit a flare just over second base which
most definitely was going to fall in and score Darren for the go
ahead run but Chris Smith made an amazing catch followed up by
doubling off Darren at second. In the top of the 8th Dumas lead off
and grounded out to 3rd base, Crowe then followed that up reaching
first on an error by the shortstop. He quickly stole second base
successfully, on a pitch out no less, which was then followed up by
the TSN 5 Pin Bowling Champion Bobby "Munson" Herman's triple down
the first base line. Bob was then pulled from 3rd base for a pinch
runner as he was visibly exhausted, quoting after the game "that was
the most I have run in my illustrious 22 year bowling career." Ron
Benedictson was then walked with ball four shooting 6 feet to Les
Kolbe's side and Vinny Dumas took off for home, not thinking Steve "Im
batting .800" Cavanagh was coming to the plate and Ron the lead off
hitter would be on first base. Vinny was safe, just like his spot
on the Dodgers, for now, and Steve Cavanagh then tripled to right
centre for the second triple of the inning. Kevin Ray made it
interesting in the bottom of the 8th walking the lead off runner and
then making a throwing error on a come backer to the mound. He went
to full count on Charlie who then swung at a definite ball four
creating the first out. Ron Clarkson then stepped to the plate,
with a double and single already in the night but B-Ray managed a
soft come backer to the mound and threw him out at first. The RBI
machine John Yeomans stepped to the plate and hit a hard line drive
to right field that John Murphy initially broke in for but quickly
adjusted and went back to make a circus like catch to end the game.
After the game coach Leslie was visibly upset with his middle
reliever Ron Benedictson as it is widely believed he blew the game
on purpose to spite Brovold and keep him off the Wins list. The
Dodgers would also like to thank Fenton for his eight straight
innings of advice, guidance, insights, banter, jokes, etc. at the
edge of their dugout, we couldn't have gotten through the game
without him. The Dodgers now look forward to their second, and
hopefully last, wooden bat game this Friday against the Firebirds.
