Winning Pitcher
Mike Young
The Dodgers showed some
scrappiness in this game using four pitchers for the shutout
win. Apparently the Dodgers have a contagious "arm" disease that
has affected all pitchers. Leslie threw the first three innings
giving up two hits with three k's. Young came in for the 4th and
threw maybe 55 mph for a shutout inning, leading him to say he
is not pitching for the rest of his career. With Grozdanich
poised to throw the 6th and 7th, catcher Silcox, tired of
hearing the whining, stepped up and put himself on the bump. He
started well striking out Babcock and the realized the rubber is
60'6" and could only throw 57', walking the next batter and
hitting the the batter after that. A very reluctant Grozdanich
took the hill and quickly got a double play. The Dodgers put up
2 on Blair in the 4th when Mike Cavanagh hit his second homerun
in as many games. The 5th inning saw Mike Young draw a four
pitch walk, and then 0-2 Leslie hit one to right centre to allow
Young to advance to 3rd. With runners on 3rd and 2nd Crowe hit a
slow roller to short that Miller probably should have eaten, but
a bad throw allowed two runs to plate. Benedictson then had a
clutch hit to keep the inning alive and plate the 5th run.
Grozdanich took to the hill in the 6th and battled giving up two
hits but no runs. With dodgers pitchers completed depleted
Grozdanich had to take the hill for the 7th and finished the
game with the hat trick; a hit, a walk and HBP. The Dodgers are
know recruiting any pitcher that can lift their arm above their head
after pitching at least one inning.
