Winning Pitcher
Ron Clarkson
Saturdays game of the Mudcats and Firebirds turned out to be a well
played and entertaining game. With the sun finally out and warm,
both Ron Clarkson and Darryl Palmer went the distance on the hill.
Once again SENIOR Mudcat Aki ("as in HOCK-EY he says") Lintunen
punched in both Cat runners in the 2-0 win. A rare feat was had in
this game. It was the bottom of 5th (2-0 Cats lead) with Bird
runners on 2nd and 3rd and none out, Bill Fibish at the plate, full
count and fouling off several Ron Clarkson pitches. Bill hits a lazy
flare into no mans land about 20 feat behind second base. On contact
all Bird runners bolted for home everyone at the park thought the
game would be tied! In amazing fashion, 2nd bagger Chris Smith made
a diving backhanded stab and came up with the ball....SS Darin
Tessier called for a throw to second for the double play and then
fired a strike to 3rd base to get the Firebird player who had
already crossed the plate by time the ball was caught, for a TRIPLE
PLAY!!! WOW....Luck finally finds the Mudcats in a game this season!
LOL. Ron Clarkson was the true P.O.G. going the distance on the hill
giving up only 3 hits and 2 BB in the Shutout win.
